Burr Congratulates Peter Hans on Being Named UNC System President

Today, Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) released the following statement on the appointment of Peter Hans as President of the University of North Carolina System:

“Peter Hans is an excellent choice to serve as the next President of the UNC System. Leading one of the best and most respected university systems in the country is the opportunity of a lifetime. Peter has the experience, insight, and passion necessary to navigate the challenges facing our state, our students, and the higher education system today. A UNC alum himself, Peter has dedicated his career to understanding and shaping education policy in meaningful and tangible ways. He has worked for a wide array of North Carolina policymakers over the years, including myself. Most recently, he served as head of the North Carolina Community Colleges System, which encompasses nearly 60 campuses and more than 700,000 students. Throughout his work, he has earned a reputation for being a bipartisan problem solver.

“I want to congratulate Peter on his exciting new role. I also want to thank Dr. Roper for his service as interim-President and the great job he’s done for UNC schools. Finally, I want to commend the Board of Governors for the thought and consideration they put into this important search.”
