Burr: We Have Many Reasons To Be Thankful

As we approach Thanksgiving this year, we have much to be thankful for. Our freedom and economic prosperity continues to offer opportunity for our citizens, and through education and hard work, we're continuing to grow our economy. As we gather to be with our friends and family, it is good to remind ourselves of the many reasons to be thankful.

Unfortunately, for many families, there are empty seats at the Thanksgiving table this year. Today, America's Armed Forces are continuing to fight the War on Terror, both in Iraq and Afghanistan, and many of them are unable to spend Thanksgiving at home. We thank them for their service, not just on Thanksgiving, but every day of the year. We also send our prayers to those families who have lost a loved one.

In this season, it is also good to remember those who need a helping hand. Each year, volunteers assist the homeless and others in need and they spread a message of hope through their good work.

This year, whether you are with family and friends sitting around the dinner table, with fellow soldiers on the battlefield, or with volunteers helping neighbors, my family and I wish you all a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving.
